Tapas: Bite-sized stories you can’t find anywhere else

The Last Blade is a fighting game developed and released by SNK for the Neo Geo system in 1997. It was also ported to several home systems. A sequel, The Last Blade 2, was released in 1998.

The game takes place during the Bakumatsu era in Japan, and incorporates various elements of Japanese mythology (with a heavy emphasis on the symbology of the Four Symbols). As such, the background music generally incorporates synthesized instruments simulating a sound appropriate to the 19th century setting, in a Western classical, pseudo-Romantic style (unusual for a fighting game).

GranBlue Fantasy -Versus- presents Gagliostro, she is coming tomorrow (Oct. 20th) and has a tease for the next fighter Yuel.

The creator of alchemy in the skydoms, Cagliostro sought to achieve immortality, and in turn, discovered a way to swap out her body at regular intervals. An extreme narcissist capable of creating her ideal body at will, she created her current self in the pursuit of idealized cuteness. However, her attempts at matching it with an equally cute voice often leave something to be desired. Cagliostro is supremely confident, which causes her to view others as incompetent buffoons. Forever greedy in the ever-changing world around her, Cagliostro pursues alchemic research with single-minded stoicism.

The game is already available for PS4 and PC.

Manipulator of foxflame, Yuel searches for the remnants of a thousand years of history. As the inheritor of an ancient ancestral power, Yuel is determined to restore her family’s royal lineage. Though it is questionable whether an heir still exists, she continues to travel the Skydom and experience much on her travels. Full of curiosity about the world, Yuel often finds herself off-track, but she views such moments as only minor setbacks.

SPLASH!! make it Rain, trailer of the Purple Rain ninja from MK11.

I am no friend of yours. I am Rain, a prince of Edenia.

Rain was originally meant to appear in Mortal Kombat 3, but didn’t actually appear until Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. Rain was originally a red herring inserted by the game developers; a character shown in the game’s attract mode who did not actually exist within the game itself. A recent interview reveals that the insert was made by Ed Boon himself to intentionally trick players. Many MK fans searched for him in vain, with the eventual realization of his status as a joke character (named after a Prince song, “Purple Rain“) dawning. The joke expands further when it is revealed that Rain is a “prince” himself. He would, however, soon make an actual appearance in the console versions of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy as a full-fledged character with his own history (that of a traitor to his realm) and move set, to the delight of many fans and the chagrin of others. His popularity is mixed within the MK fanbase. He is a DLC character for Mortal Kombat (2011), with his debut gameplay trailer released on July 11, 2011, and the character itself released on July 19th.
