Arc System Works was already looking quite busy in 2021 where they’re set to support Guilty Gear Strive, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Granblue Fantasy: Versus, but it looks like they’ve added even more to their plate.
During the Dungeon and Fighter Universe Festival in South Korea, Neople announced a new Arc System Works-developed fighting game called Dungeon and Fighter Duel / Dungeon Fighter Duel / DNF Duel.
DNF Duel is a new spin-off title in the Dungeon Fighter Online world which looks to take the beat ’em up-style MMORPG and translate the action into a more traditional 2D fighting game.
Dungeon Fighter Online launched back in 2005 and has since become one of the most popular video games in the world garnering over 700 million lifetime players and grossed over $15 billion as of May 2020.
As for DNF Duel, the game appears to be running on a similar engine to another ArcSys-developed fighting game in Granblue Fantasy: Versus with all of the anime aesthetic flare you expect for the company now.
Instead of using individual characters, DNF Duel appears to use fighters based on the 16 main classes and 60 Advencements found in the MMO with five showing up in the trailer.
The characters so far appear to be using the Advencement version of classes with the Berserker, Ranger, Grappler, Striker and Inquisitor all shown off with gameplay here.
There’s little to go on as far as gameplay mechanics specifically, but there appears to be some sort of special cancel or something similar where characters can be seen flashing at various points before performing a move.
Eighting, the former developers of Bloody Roar and Marvel vs. Capcom 3, will also be working to help create the game though the scope of their involvement is still not known.
The project is seemingly being helmed by Ryosuke Kodani in the director’s chair, who previously worked as a lead planner in Dragon Ball FighterZ, was the assistant director for River City Girls and worked with Arcana Heart 3 prior.
It’s unclear just how many fighting game teams Arc System Works operates now considering they have three other ongoing projects, but two of them just being on DLC seasons and Eighting assisting here probably helps lighten the load for the developers.
No platforms or release date was given in the initial trailer, but the previous record of ArcSys fighting games, it’ll likely come to PlayStation 4 and PC at the very least.

“The Saiyans? They are here, I am they, we are one. Unfortunately for you, Omega.“ — Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta to Omega Shenron in “Super Saiyan 4 Fusion“
When Goku and Vegeta as Super Saiyan 4’s could not beat Omega Shenron, Vegeta suggests fusion, with Goku laughing, surprised that Vegeta is the one who suggested it, hating the idea on previous occasions. With the help of the Dragon Team distracting Omega, they fused into Gogeta again and this time, in his Super Saiyan 4 state to combat Omega Shenron. Having achieved his ultimate potential, Gogeta easily overpowered Omega Shenron and even used his supreme power to gloat and toy with the Shadow Dragon, using attacks solely to humiliate Omega, and afterward laughing loudly. Gogeta goads Omega into trying to use the Negative Karma Ball to destroy the Earth in desperation. The result of this was Gogeta infusing some of his positive energy into the ball while kicking it out of the atmosphere, turning the ball itself into blue-colored positive energy and creating a nuclear explosion which negated all the negative energy effects of the Shadow Dragons upon the planet. However, because the tremendous power he possessed in this form limited the fusion to an unprecedented ten minutes, this ploy exhausted a little too much time, thus he defused and was unable to finish him off. Omega Shenron was later defeated by Goku’s Universal Spirit Bomb.
Yoruichi Shihōin was born the princess of the Tenshiheisōban (天賜兵装番, House of Godly Gears), the Shihōin Clan, one of the four noble families. Yoruichi grew up at the Shihōin Mansion in the Seireitei of Soul Society with her childhood friends Kisuke Urahara and Tessai Tsukabishi. During this time, they played together daily under the Sōkyoku hill training space, which Urahara built when they were children.
Later, Yoruichi became the Corps Commander of the Executive Militia of the Onmitsukidō while serving as the 22nd generational Head of the Shihōin Clan, becoming the first woman to ever hold the position. Some time later, she would serve as Commander-in-Chief of the Onmitsukidō, as the position is traditionally held by the heads of the Shihōin Clan. She eventually rose to the position of captain of the 2nd Division of the Gotei 13, further uniting the formerly separate military arms together, as this was also traditionally done by her family.
Some time later, she decided to change her role in the Onmitsukidō from being the Corps Commander of the Executive Militia, which is the position traditionally held by the Commander-in-Chief, to being the Corps Commander of the Corrections Corps. While Yoruichi was Onmitsukidō Commander, she took in Suì-Fēng as a personal bodyguard. Recognizing her talent, she became a mentor and friend. She taught Suì-Fēng most of the techniques she knew. During her time in Soul Society, she created many techniques which involved Shunpo, and taught some of them to Byakuya.
Pikkon was once a fighter who lived in an unknown location in the West Quadrant of the universe. After dying a heroic unknown death, Pikkon was permitted to journey to the planet of West Kai, where he trained hard and became West Kai’s best student.
Pikkon is a very wise fighter. He uses this to his advantage by planning out attacks. Pikkon even goes as far to correct Goku on his “sloppy” dodging and inability to concentrate, offering advice even in battle. When he first appears, he hardly speaks a word, but later opens up during his bout against Goku. Pikkon has heroic characteristics similar to Goku’s, and fights for the good. Goku compares his personality to that of Piccolo, and even states that Pikkon and Piccolo would “get along great”. In Fusion Reborn, he is seen becoming jealous when Goku gets to battle Janemba and he does not. He is also seen just as impatient when he asks Janemba where he came from, and he is shown to get quite angry when things do not go his way (an example being him yelling while trying to get the barrier encased around the Check-In Station to break).
Pikkon is the strongest warrior in the history of Universe 7’s West Galaxy. Even with his extremely heavy weighted clothing on, he showed no noticeable diminishing in his natural performance. His prowess was asked for personally by Grand Kai to take care of a villains’ rebellion in Hell. Without asking for any information on the foes. He calmly rushed to his assignment and swiftly defeats the strongest of enemies, knocking out Frieza and King Cold each with one hit, and similarly defeating Cell in two blows (albeit he caught Cell off-guard with his Burning Shoot).
During the Other World Tournament, Pikkon was able to easily advance to the finals, able to defeat Olibu, one of the North Galaxy’s strongest warriors, with only minor difficulty. In the finals against base Goku, Pikkon remained virtually unfazed by Goku’s initial assault. Once Goku fought seriously and his strength proved slightly ahead of Pikkon in his restrained state, he removed his weights, prompting Goku to use Super Saiyan. Despite Goku large power increase in power, the two warriors were basically on par with each other (although Pikkon’s profile in Dragon Ball: Raging Blast 2 stating that Pikkon had the upperhand). He is able to withstand Goku’s Super Kaio-ken. As noted by Goku, Pikkon is a very efficient warrior with virtually no blind-spots. This forced Goku to feign defeat long enough to catch Pikkon off-guard to finally eliminate the mighty warrior.
In Bio-Broly, Pikkon was called for to aid Goku in detaining the rampaging Broly in Hell, showing that the gods had faith in his might against the Legendary Super Saiyan.
In Fusion Reborn, Pikkon is completely outclassed when faced against Janemba, being flicked away by Janemba in his first form and nearly killed with one blow by Super Janemba. By comparison, Super Saiyan 3 Goku beat Janemba’s first form with a few blows and put up a fight against Super Janemba.
