MerFight: Curse of the Arctic Prince is a fighting game. Simple as that. Or is it deeper than that? Well, MerFight is 2.5D fighting game with emphasis on player expression and simplicity through leniency. With a cast all based off different types of aquatic life — angler fish, sharks, the Yellowtail Fang Blenny — MerFight hopes to float to the surface in an already deep genre.
The initial game will feature 12 playable characters, various in-game tutorials, and single player modes such as a branching story mode. Why else would it have such a long subtitle. What exactly is the Arctic Prince’s curse? You’ll have to play to find out!
If you’re a fan of the genre, I know what you’re going to ask next: “But will it have rollback netcode?” Well, YES! In fact, the playable demo, which you can currently download from itch.io or GameJolt, does! Online multiplayer has been a major focus since day one of MerFight’s development, and there have already had matches between players from Japan, the US, and Germany. The game currently has 8-player lobbies.
